Despite the "Difor Suisse" label, Difor is not a Swiss watchmaking house. It was a French company founded in Besançon just after the Second World War, specializing in particular in the mail-order sale of watches. The name Difor is a contraction of "DIFfusion hORlogère" (Watchmaking Distribution).
The company marketed watches under the names Difor, Difor Besançon, and Difor Suisse, as well as various models of household clocks. As a French assembler, Difor cased both French and Swiss movements and reached its peak in the 1960s, a period during which the brand brought together several watchmaking companies in the region.
This piece is powered by the Valjoux 7734, a manual-winding mechanical caliber born from the evolution of the Valjoux 7730, which itself originated from Valjoux's acquisition of Venus SA in 1966.
This piece is particularly distinguished by its first-hand nature: it has been preserved with its box, original warranty, and original strap. It was given to its owner for his communion in 1974.
